One of the coolest accessories for the cooler months: a leather jacket. In all its silhouettes, a black leather jacket has been a staple for decades.
That said, this piece is NOT that easy to pull off. Despite what models/Nordstrom merchandising might lead you to believe, this sh** is difficult. Often times you’re teetering on “I accidentally joined a biker gang in college” with some kind of Daughters of Anarchy vibe (never seen the show, just thought it sounded funny). You don’t want to walk around and have people be afraid of you because your outfit says “I carry a switchblade and dabble in hardcore drugs.”
Sorry I always go too far with those things.
The jacket style of my dreams? I’ve had my heart set on this one from Vince for the past two years, but it’s literally so unfathomably expensive, I’d need to hire a financial advisor first. I’ve been getting a lot of use out of it in my REM cycles, though. Dream me wears it nearly every day.
Mine is a faux-leather piece from Nordstrom Rack (comes in a really pretty wine color). It does the job. I tried to keep mine a little less aggressive in style so I wouldn’t look like I was auditioning for a Ramones cover band after applying for a part time job at Hot Topic.
I did so via a t-shirt dress from Nordstrom, my trusty burgundy flannel and my favorite split side boots from Jeffrey Campbell. Also, in case you were on the fence as to whether or not I’m crazy: these boots were not available in the U.S. when I wanted them last year, so I asked my Canadian sorority sister if I could ship them to her house in Vancouver and have her send them to me after. #sisterhood
On another note, I feel like Victoria Beckham is earth’s example for how to wear a leather jacket while being extremely casual, so I hope to one day come close to her level of effortless-coolness/wearing leather jackets while taking my kids to the park. Two women whose style I most admire are Victoria Beckham and Kate Middleton, so obviously I have a very confused life.
Also… the sunsets are so epic in the colder months here…. every single one has been striking lately. After shooting some pics down at the pier, Arielle and I grabbed some amazing Louisiana BBQ from That Boy Good (pulled pork FTW) and a Peanut Butter Milk Stout from Belching Beaver brewery, brought our food home, and proceeded to watch movies on the couch in our sweats and not move for hours(Pitch Perfect and Home Alone have been in our recent favs category). Dreams, achieved. Mostly. Next up: winning the lottery & getting that Vince jacket.
xx,
Dominique
